“Swine flue is one more strain of flu. It sounds really scary because it originally came from pigs, and that creates some mystery around it. It also sounds scary because we don’t have any vaccine to protect those who are most vulnerable.
But it behaves like other flu. We catch it the same way, and we can protect of the same ways. We can make choices to protect against ourselves and our families.
Do you fear the seasonal flu? Probably not. And this flu is really no more frightening than seasonal flu. Infact, to date, no deaths have occurred outside Mexico*, whereas thousands die each year from seasonal flu.” -about.com
- the death of a two year old from the us was reported yesterday.
The point is. Don’t freak out. The hundreds that died in mexico is beans and peas compaired to the thousands that die from normal flu. And it’s not even the flu that kills anyone. It’s the complications. There are no other complications from swine flu than from normal flu.
I was worried too when I saw pictures of people in facemasks, the word pandemic flashing every 3 seconds and they call this a level 4 health crisis.
Peope wearing facemasks reminds us of SARS and other legit, deadly, reasons to flip. And the word pandemic only applys to geography. as in it could spread to other parts of the world. And health crisis stage 4? Like everything else, we have all flipped out a little too much. Kinda like why you can’t buy yard darts or why there aren’t any more metal slides.
Normal flu is an epidemic, it kills tens of thousands every year. Just wash your hands and cover your mouth and “quit putting your mouth on the water fountain bobby!”
